*We e-mailed Ben Print from the City Council. He is sending an emergency expert to us next week so we can ask an expert in earthquakes, questions.

STRATEGIES FOR HELPING WITH OUR INQUIRY: 12.8.11

*Rating questions as basic questions right through to deeper, open-ended questions so that we can ask appropriate questions to our expert who is coming in at 1.30 today.

*Further questions to help your understanding of disasters. Record them in any way you like.

*Choose a diaster from around the world. You can make a powerpoint, poster or media book to show your information. I will teach anyone who wants to know, how to make a digital story.

*Write a creative story about a disaster.

*Do a B.A.R activity which would make a country/city safer in a disaster.

*Make a model of a disaster: eg: the titanic: why did it sink? Tangiwai Rail Disaster.

*Your own idea: Come and have a discussion with me and we will think about the materials that we will need.

*Person of the week: Profile: Who is Sam Johnson from the Student Army? How did he show dynamic thinking in the ChCh earthquakes? How could we contact him to come and talk about his social action?

*Enter the national speech competition on astronomy. You will need to write/record a 3 minute speech on either an astronomical disaster, space disaster, galaxy disaster of universe disaster (past, present or future). *Write a letter/e-mail to a local business to find out whether anyone can give us a discount price and what goods they supply.

*E-mail/write a letter to the people at the place you want to photograph. The children going into town and staying at school to show the mummification process won't need to worry about this part. (You might want to consider going to the special mummy lesson at the museum though.
*Complete a safety outside the classroom sheet to get signed off before you go on the trip (Even if you are not going outside the school, we will all have a go).

*Go the learning centre and research different styles of photography.
*Practise taking shots with the information you have found this week.
